UUM-ORPHEUS WILL INTRODUCE ‘GAJINOW’ AND ‘EDUNOW’


UUM ONLINE: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) through Uniutama Management Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (UMHSB) will be the first university to use the ‘GajiNow’ and ‘EduNow’ financing facility products which are expected to be launched this year.

This is the result of the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UMHSB and digital finance company, Orpheus Capital Sdn. Bhd. (OC) which took place at Dewan Seri Angsana 2, EDC UUM, yesterday.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah said that the collaboration between the two entities will encourage the use of technology in financial management which is expected to have a positive impact through funding for suppliers, employees, customers and students especially those facing financial problems.

According to him, it is an effort to support the government’s aspirations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030 and the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDigital).

He said the funding will help provide a digital platform that is easier and faster in financial management, indirectly improving people’s living standards through balanced and sustainable economic growth based on technology.

“This joint venture is also seen to be able to help students who are facing financial constraints and at the same time through this MoU, UUM can further strengthen the relationship between industry, university and local companies.

“The MoU today (yesterday) is a pioneer towards strategic cooperation between UMHSB and the industry in a win-win situation (win-win situation) and I hope this cooperation is bigger and more comprehensive in addition to product offerings but also related to financial literacy that can be developed for students ,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman said, he congratulated UMHSB on the initiative of forming a strategic collaboration with Orpheus Capital in an effort to empower the application of technology in the aspect of financial management.

According to him, hopefully the effort started will be the fruit of the mouth of the community and other universities in elevating UUM to become a catalyst for Kedah’s excellence as a world jewel.

Meanwhile, OC Executive Chairman, Dato’ Badrul Hassan Mohamed Kassim said, UUM will be the first university to use the two products once the final process is completed with UMHSB.

According to him, his party is providing funds for ‘GajiNow’ and ‘EduNow’ which will make it easier for UUM staff and students to get financing facilities from OC immediately.

He said, for ‘GajiNow’ the maximum application is as much as RM2,000, while ‘EduNow’ is still in the discussion stage of the amount that will be limited for applications.

“This funding process is only through technology without using any form. They only need to contact OC and the money will be credited into their respective bank accounts.

“We chose UUM because we saw the potential in this university such as expertise in various fields such as business and management. A lot can be done between OC and UUM together and at the same time this collaboration will help realize UUM’s desire to become a digital or ‘technology savvy’ campus,” he said.

The MoU signing session was completed by the Chief Financial Officer of UMHSB, Mohamad Rafi Kamis and the Executive Director of OC, Muhammad Hamudi A. Khalid, witnessed by the Vice Chancellor and also the Executive Chairman of OC.
